.. _gen_conus2_domain: Inputs for baseline CONUS2 ParFlow Simulations ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The ParFlow CONUS2 model is the second generation national ParFlow model. The CONUS2 domain covers the entire contiguous US and areas draining to it. The domain extent and projection are based off of the National Water Model Grid. Manual corrections were made along the coastline to get rid of cells that were water and to prune any orphan cells (i.e. cells attached to the domain only by a corner). You can learn more about the domain and the model on the `HydroFrame Website `_. For datasets that are 3 dimensional, the ParFlow CONUS2 model consists of 10 layers with a total depth of about 392 m. The layers have variable thicknesses of 200, 100, 50, 25, 10, 5, 1, 0.6, 0.3, and 0.1 m from bottom to top. Note that indexing layers is also done from bottom to top, so the layer associated with Python index 0 is the bottom (deepest) layer and the layer associated with Python index 9 is the top layer closest to the surface. This dataset contains all of the input fields for the model as well as additional pre and post processing files that can be useful for data analysis. If you are interested in building a ParFlow model off of this national template the `SubsetTools Python package `_ can help you do that. **Dataset Name**: conus2_domain **Data Source**: hydroframe **Citations:** Please refer to the following citations for more information on this dataset and cite them if you use the data * https://essd.copernicus.org/articles/13/3263/2021/ **Extent and Resolution**: * Available Date Range: * Grid: conus2 - Spacial Resolution: 1000 meters - XY Grid Spacial Extent: 4442 x 3256 - LatLon Spacial Exent: -126.88755692881833, 21.8170599154073, -64.7677149695924, 53.20274381640737 - Origin (meters): -2208000.30881173, -1668999.65483222 - Projection: +proj=lcc +lat_1=30 +lat_2=60 +lon_0=-97.0 +lat_0=40.0000076294444 +a=6370000.0 +b=6370000 * Grid: conus2.250 - Spacial Resolution: 250 meters - XY Grid Spacial Extent: 4442 x 3256 - LatLon Spacial Exent: -126.88755692881833, 21.8170599154073, -64.7677149695924, 53.20274381640737 - Origin (meters): -2208000.30881173, -1668999.65483222 - Projection: Variables ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This describes the available variables of the dataset.
